The Villain: A How-To Guide
by T.A. Saunders ©2010 v1.0

Too often in role-playing games of any kind when a player chooses to play a confrontational villain role, this character does not live up to its true potential because of a few simple mistakes made while roleplaying said character. Everybody loves a good villain, but it is key to remember that everybody likes to KILL a good villain too. The whole point of having villains involved in role-playing games (and certainly in free form ones) is to give some moral diversity to a game and add a little healthy confrontation.

How to Connect to Our Teamspeak Server

STEP ONE:

Read this forum post and download the appropriate version of Teamspeak and install it. At present, we are using Teamspeak RC2 and are not planning to upgrade at this time. Until the server setup for version 3 becomes a whole lot more hassle-free, Version 2 is what we're going to be sticking with. Please be advised, if you are using Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit, you will need to download the appropriate 64-bit client.

NOTE: All this information assumes you have a working microphone and know how to use it. You may ASK an op to help you address microphone problems, but we are not technical support. Microphones are very inexpensive and almost all computers have a plug-in for one, or in the case of laptops, have the microphone built right into the unit. Please familiarize yourself with its operation before asking for help for a non-functioning microphone.

How to Add the Channel Cutscript to mIRC

The process of adding a cutscript to mIRC can be a challenging one depending on your level of familiarity with the program. In an effort to make it less painful we've added this guide to walk new users through it. While it is not required that you use our channel's cutscript, it is encouraged since it is bereft of any extra characters or obnoxious colors that do nothing to enhance your roleplay, but rather distract from it. Please note this process may or may NOT work for all cutscripts.

NOTE: If you are using Windows Vista 64-Bit or Windows 7 64-bit, there is a possibility that mIRC 6.35 32-bit will not execute this cutscript correctly, even if you use compatibility mode. To get around this particular issue, download mIRC 7 Beta from mIRC's website.

Getting Involved in Channel RP: A Newcomers Guide

In an effort to get more people involved and get less of that clique feeling out of the channel, we have set up these guidelines in hopes some of our newer players will read it and figure out how to get involved in the gaming we do. Sometimes, our way of playing just isn't for everybody and that's all right. However, we often see people who look like they might want to get involved but just don't. Well, we want to get you involved; so, this is how you do that.

Joining the Game and Understanding the Setting

Our channel was created with the intent of focusing on fun and flexible roleplay first and all other things second. We believe that people being comfortable with their characters is more important (within reason) is more important than what you play. We accept most 'furry' types of characters, we accept oriental type characters, we accept characters based on a plethora of game systems and we accept a wide variety of home-brewed characters. We're more interested in the story you have to tell, than the exact kind of character you want to play. The World of Imarel is very open-ended in that regard.
